2019

Lisbon's downtown commercial district is now on the National Register of Historic Places.  Lisbon's Historic Preservation Commission received notice on November 1, 2019.  The designation is the culmination of hundreds of hours of work over the past two years, as nearly 50 volunteers of all ages searched archives, took photos, conducted interviews and then pieced the information all together into a 55-page nomination.

The application for Lisbon's downtown to be listed as a Main Street Historic District is now on to the state Historical Society of Iowa, the first step in the process of the district being named to the National Register of Historic Places.  The commission has spent the past 15 months, with more than 600 volunteer hours of work and the help of more than 50 people, completing its application.  The application will be reviewed by June 15 by the state, and then be sent to the national level for review.
